About David Pell
My passion for the healing arts was kindled after I fractured my neck during a whitewater kayaking accident.
During my recovery journey, bodyworkers were instrumental in my healing, and the experience inspired me to begin my massage career in 2015 at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR.
After relocating to Asheville, NC, I established Quiet Man Wellness in 2025 to help others through Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Thai massage.
Each session is tailored to fit the client’s needs with attention to their unique objectives and personal energy.
I also draw on my holistic connection with the earth to facilitate healing. I’ve been a passionate gardener since childhood, and my Rusty Shovel Roses business offers own-root roses, consultation & rose care. Roses have the highest vibrational frequency of any flower or gemstone at 320 megahertz. Our body vibrates at 60 to 70 mhz, and my work with this flower’s essence helps clients harmonize and entrain their energy centers to the highest potential of nature.

Swedish massage is one of the most popular and widely practiced massage therapies, offering a gentle yet effective approach to relaxation and wellness. This therapeutic treatment delivers numerous benefits including stress reduction, improved circulation, relief from muscle tension, enhanced flexibility, and better sleep quality. It helps reduce anxiety while promoting an overall sense of calm and well-being. Regular Swedish massage sessions can also support the body’s natural healing processes and boost immune function.
The massage therapist employs five fundamental techniques to manipulate soft tissue and muscles throughout the body. 1. Effleurage uses long, gliding strokes that warm up the muscles and promote relaxation. 2. Petrissage involves kneading, rolling, and lifting motions that work deeper into the muscle tissue to release tension. 3. Friction applies focused pressure using circular movements to break down adhesions and increase blood flow to specific areas. 4. Tapotement consists of rhythmic tapping, cupping, or percussion movements that stimulate and invigorate the muscles. 5. Lastly, vibration uses rapid shaking or trembling motions to help relax the nervous system.Description text goes here

Deep tissue massage is designed to address chronic pain, muscle tension, and injury recovery by targeting the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This intensive treatment offers significant benefits including relief from persistent muscle pain and stiffness, improved posture, reduced inflammation, enhanced athletic performance, and accelerated recovery from injuries. It is well-known for providing relief for conditions such as lower back pain, neck tension, sciatica, and repetitive strain injuries. Deep tissue massage can also help break up scar tissue, increase range of motion, and reduce stress-related muscle tension that builds up over time.
The therapist utilizes slow, deliberate strokes and sustained pressure to reach deeper muscle layers and fascia. Techniques include slow effleurage strokes that prepare the tissue for deeper work, followed by concentrated pressure applied with fingertips, knuckles, forearms, or elbows to access problematic areas. Friction movements are used across the grain of muscles to release adhesions and break down knots. Stripping techniques involve applying deep, gliding pressure along the length of muscle fibers to release chronic tension patterns.

Thai massage is an ancient healing art that combines acupressure, assisted yoga stretching, and rhythmic compression to create a dynamic and rejuvenating therapeutic experience. This traditional practice offers benefits including increased flexibility, improved energy flow, enhanced joint mobility, stress relief, and better posture. Clients often experience reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, and a profound sense of balance between body and mind. Thai massage can help alleviate headaches, boost immune function, and promote deeper, more restful sleep while leaving you feeling both energized and relaxed.
The practitioner uses their hands, thumbs, elbows, forearms, knees, and feet to apply rhythmic compression along the body's energy lines, known as sen lines. Unlike traditional massage, Thai massage is performed fully clothed on a comfortable floor mat. During the process, you are guided through a series of passive yoga-like stretches that lengthen muscles and open joints, improving overall flexibility. Rocking motions help relax the body while palm pressing and thumb pressing techniques target specific pressure points to release blocked energy. The practitioner’s body weight is used to apply steady, rhythmic pressure rather than muscular force, creating a flowing, meditative quality to the session.
